One of the most amazing tools that we can use to encourage and empower ourselves is positive morning affirmations! Don’t believe me? Well, here are 5 powerful reasons why these powerful morning affirmations are important and why they should be in your morning routine!
I started incorporating morning affirmations for self-love and morning affirmations for success into my morning routine early on in 2021. And I am happy to report that I am more confident and more in love with myself than I have ever been!
Affirmations have changed pretty much my entire outlook on life – and here’s how!
Today, we’re talking all about positive morning affirmations.
Positive Morning Affirmations
1. Affirmations can change your mindset for the day
Affirmations help us to start our day on a positive note.
If you’re anything like me, you’re not a morning person and you typically start your day off with an attitude. You begin by thinking about how you don’t want to be awake. Then your mind starts to drift to all of the things you have to do that day which only makes you want to crawl back into bed more. But you can’t because you have bills to pay and mouths to feed and goals to reach and responsibilities and…
It just seems like mornings are when everything “adult” in like decides to scream in your face.
But affirmations allow you to take a step back and give love to yourself first and foremost. Affirmations help you realize that, yes, you may have a lot to do, but it’s nothing you can’t handle. And through it all, you still deserve love and respect from others and, even more importantly, from yourself.
So start your day off by reminding yourself what you’re worth and what you can do, not what you have to do.
2. You learn to talk nicely to yourself
We are programmed to be very critical of ourselves. It seems like every other thought is I am not x enough or I shouldn’t have done x or I can’t do x right.
If we are not the absolute best, we think we are the absolute worst.
We don’t give enough credit to ourselves for the hard work we put in every day. We don’t look at how far we’ve come or the fact that we’re simply human. We just look at what we are not doing and who we are not instead of celebrating where we are going and who we are.
Affirmations can change this. Affirmations can help to retrain us to say nice things to ourselves and treat ourselves with love. When we trade in our self-criticisms for positive and motivational affirmations, we can become accustomed to speaking positively to ourselves and about ourselves, even when the situations and world around us scream at us to do otherwise.
3. You start to believe your affirmations over time
The more you say something to yourself, the more you believe it, especially when you are talking about your identity.
Have you ever noticed how that girl who you think is beyond beautiful thinks she’s too ugly? Or genuinely thinks she “too fat” and doesn’t deserve to eat or wear cute things? Even though everyone around assures her of the opposite?
That’s because she has become wired to believe what she has told herself for so long.
But the good news is, we have the power to rewire our brains to think positively!
Dr. Caroline Leaf talks about rewiring our brains in her book Think and Eat Yourself Smart. She talks about how 21 days of consciously thinking a certain way will turn that way of thinking into a habit. But it takes 63 days to change this way of thinking from conscious to unconscious, where it ultimately becomes a part of who we are and what we identify as.
Although her book was talking about how we think about eating and food, we can apply her logic to affirmations as well.
If you say affirmations for 21 days, affirming yourself will become a conscious habit. But by consistently saying affirmations for 63 days and consistently working at replacing your self-criticisms, you will rewire your brain to unconsciously think your affirmations are the truth.
In other words, you will grow to truly believe your affirmations!
4. Affirmations can remind you of your goals
If your affirmations are goals, you will be reminded every morning of what you are striving for that day.
For example, if your affirmation is “I can and will save $10,000 this year, “ then you will go into your day with the mindset of what can I do to get closer to that $10,000 goal?
We are all really busy people. We tend to have a lot of things on our minds at once, especially at the beginning of the day when we haven’t even gotten started on our to-do list yet.
This is why it is critical that we say our affirmations in the morning. Our goals can be on our minds before everything else has the time to take over our thoughts. From here, we can mold our following thoughts, decisions, and actions to get us closer to our goals
5. Affirmations give power to your voice
You can write your affirmations down and also say them in your head throughout the day. But in the morning, when you are first telling yourself your affirmations, practice actually saying them out loud.
Doing this will prove to you how much your voice actually matters and how influential your voice can be.
You have the power to enact change, even if you feel like you don’t. And one of the best weapons you have to do this with is your voice.
But maybe you don’t know this or fully believe this because you have never had the opportunity to physically use your voice to change anything.
But today you have the opportunity to start using your voice to change your perspective of yourself. Once you begin to do this through affirmations, you will realize how truly strong your voice is.
Saying your affirmations out loud will also get you used to speaking out against criticism.
As we continue to grow into our best selves, there will either be people who don’t like who we are or don’t like what we do…or both. We have to practice standing up against those nay-sayers and believing in ourselves and our dreams anyways.
The best way we can do this is by practicing standing up to ourselves.
If we can disagree with our programmed way of thinking negatively about ourselves, then we can learn to disagree with others when they try to push their negativity onto us.
By consistently including affirmation in our morning routine, we can empower ourselves to think positively and tackle each day as best as we can. So what affirmations are you going to use to start changing your perspective and growing your self-love today?
